Sonic Fan Remix – Because Sega still don’t get it!

By Andrew Bryant, October 9, 2010 0 Editorial

Ok, Barry didn’t really get on with the iOS version of Sonic 4 , but it’s not like everyone didn’t see it coming – Sonic Team have been sent to Coventry many times with their broken attempts to reinvent their namesake series for years.

So, as per usual, it’s up to the fans to show them how it’s done.… Read More…

Edge of Reason found – Tim Langdell schooled **UPDATED**

By Andrew Bryant, October 5, 2010 0 Industry News

Like software patents, trademarks are, theoretically, quite sound – declare a sign, logo or word as a defining part of your company image and nobody else can try to pass themselves off as you without a legal ruckus.

Like software patents, protecting trademarks is encouraged, lest you lose them (just look at Games Workshop).

Like a software patent, a trademark is a horrible, icky creature, governed by a system that is massively open to abuse…

Timothy Langdell is a trademark troll – like a normal troll, only he doesn’t live under a bridge, although he’s just as much a slimy … Read More…

Record-breaking Fail – Troubled APB Shuts Down

By Andrew Bryant, September 16, 2010 1 Editorial, PC

In what is clearly a record for an already over-saturated market, All Points Bulletin, the hybrid MMO/shooter from the beleaguered Realtime Worlds, has closed down after less than three short months in the wild.

The internet already has a compelling lawsuit-load of evidence of the many failures at Realtime Worlds that lead up to this point, not least this blog currently being maintained by ex-staffer Luke Halliwell, who vents his thoughts quite vigourously at the mis-management that clearly went on behind the scenes.

Regardless, following a month of administration and a clear inability to find a rescue buyer, the decision … Read More…

Green Flu – Left 4 Dead ‘Sacrifice’: Part 1 released

By Andrew Bryant, September 15, 2010 0 Mac, PC, XBOX 360

Jokes & boycotts aside, Left 4 Dead is still very much alive.  Valve are releasing ‘The Sacrifice’ DLC in October (for both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2) and, in typical Valve fashion, they’re doing it in a spectacular way.

This time, we get a humongous comic graphic novel, granularly released over 4 weeks, documenting the aftermath of the military rescue at the end of Blood Harvest, the origin of the plague & the survivors plight.

Episode 1 features Louis.  His first encounter with a zombie is on the loo, which may very well explain his demeanour.
