CNS List-o-tron-o-matic – Our Best Of 2008

Computers N Stuff List-o-tron-o-matic - Our Best of 2008

Because we're having a slow news time, what with there being a typical post-christmas lull, a global recession and nothing but a load of announcements & promises in the form of press releases (coupled with the fact we forgot to do it in 2008), here's the CNS Best of 2008

Far Cry 2 has narrow view of the world

A little over a year ago, in a major startling development for the industry, a game was released...  A relatively minor spectacle, it crept in from somewhere left-field relatively unnoticed and radically under-hyped, landing on a few different platforms.  It was called BioShock and it didn't like Widescreen monitors/TV.

Much hilarity ensued and after much accusation of widescreen-ism, 2K relented and patched a toggle into the game enabling everyone to see an extra 10o of visualitude either side, allowing a glimpse of Jacks dislocated wrench shoulder where the weapon designer cut corners.  Anyway, after that minor debacle (satiated by a community hack arriving effectively on the day of release), the issue went away and everyone went back to gaming.

Fast foward to October 2008.  Far Cry 2 is released and there's a taste of deja vu in the air.

Far Cry 2 Performance Review

As I type this, a large number of you (myself included) will either have a small parcel winging its way to them (via your preferred postal service) or a large number of itty-bitty bytes filling your computers hard disk

Contained within said package will, apparently, be a prime candidate for game of the year...  a promised tour-de-force 40-hour African safari with blood, guts, violence, and many, many zebras.  Yes, Far Cry 2 has shipped for a large deal of people.

In anticipation of it hitting doormats/hard drives, Guru3D have taken sixteen of the worlds favourite graphics cards (ATI AMD & Nvidia) and put them through their paces.

So, readers, do we have another stutteringly gorgeous Crysis or a deliciously optimsed and detailed Call of Duty 4?  Read on...
