LEC vents Steam – old (and some not-so-old) releases on Valve’s Content Delivery System

Lucasarts_logoAfter much much much much teasing, LucasArts have finally let fly with what they've been drip-feeding us over the July 4th weekend...

A partnership with Valve Software's Steam platform to bring a plethora of LEC software both old and, well, not that old at all, too the masses.

OMG OMG OMG OMG! (or ‘How Andrew got really excited about new Monkey Island stuff’)

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

There isn't a lot in the world that simultaneously makes me wee and crap my pants...  This very nearly was one of those moments!

Anyway, E3 this year is just getting better and better, with both the afformentioned Monkey Island re-release now confirmed for PC as well as XBLA and, in a completely left-field move, LucasArts putting everything they said that hurt the entire adventure community SO MUCH behind them and teaming up with Telltale Games to bring a series of Monkey Island episodes to both PC & WiiWare starting next month!

The former, which features both revamped graphics and voice-overs (no definite confirmation of Dominic Armato... yet!), is due 'sometime this year'.

Change of heart, or just the realisation by LEC that they were just complete tools to reject the market that made them a true gaming force in the 90's.

Trailers for both and a HUGE Press Release after the cut...

Rumour Mill: Guybrush Threepwood coming to XBLA

monkeyGamerBytes elite ratings spies have picked up on a USK listing for The Secret of Monkey Island - Special Edition!

...?

Wait, you were expecting more?  That's pretty much it at the moment, but it could be either an Xbox Live Arcade release or a full retail release (possibly cross-platform), possibly with HD graphics and/or voice acting (both of which would appeal to newcomers too the series but totally ruin any sense of nostalgia)

Are LEC simply testing the water to see if the market conditions really are suitable for a new adventure game (especially given the reception of their recent Star Wars output has been lukewarm at best) after the verbal drubbing they recieved for killing off Full Throttle 2 & Sam & Max: Freelance Police (only for Telltale to show them what for)?  Or are we all just reading in too it too far?

Still, at least if the XBLA rumour is true, you won't have to pay more than 20 bucks for it! *zing*
