We kid you not… For the low, low price of absolutely nothing, you too can play the first 20 minutes* of The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition RIGHT NOW, in YOUR BROWSER of all places.

Seriously, we’re cutting our own throats! (oh, wait, wrong game).

The game requires InstantAction’s Java plugin, which, despite the cross-platform potential of such browserly goodness, only runs on Windows… and then only in Internet Explorer or Firefox… assuming it doesn’t crash constantly.

Still… 20 minutes of Monkey Island for zero pieces of eight!

It’s hard to objectively review remakes of cult and personal favourites. On one hand, I am trying to look at a part of my formative gaming years (Monkey Island was my first proper, adult PC game) without fawning over why the subject at hand was/wasn’t special to me. On the other hand, it’s hard not to be over critical

After much much much much teasing, LucasArts have finally let fly with what they’ve been drip-feeding us over the July 4th weekend…

A partnership with Valve Software’s Steam platform to bring a plethora of LEC software both old and, well, not that old at all, too the masses.

There isn’t a lot in the world that simultaneously makes me wee and crap my pants… This very nearly was one of those moments!

Anyway, E3 this year is just getting better and better, with both the afformentioned Monkey Island re-release now confirmed for PC as well as XBLA and, in a completely left-field move, LucasArts putting everything they said that hurt the entire adventure community SO MUCH behind them and teaming up with Telltale Games to bring a series of Monkey Island episodes to both PC & WiiWare starting next month!

Wait, you were expecting more? That’s pretty much it at the moment, but it could be either an Xbox Live Arcade release or a full retail release (possibly cross-platform), possibly with HD graphics and/or voice acting (both of which would appeal to newcomers too the series but totally ruin any sense of nostalgia)
