Rumour – Microsoft dropping Points by end of year

Sources inside Redmond have revealed that Microsoft is looking to kill off their virtual currency system by the end of the year.

Sources inside Redmond have revealed to Inside Mobile Apps that Microsoft is looking to kill off their (seemingly arbitrary) virtual currency system by the end of the year.

The move will bring Microsoft bang up to date with the rest of the world, whereby currency will likely be decided through the broken Geo-IP system.

Microsoft unleashed the system in 2005 in order to side-step the issue of currency conversion, but only really succeeded in creating a murky quagmire, where points are worth less than what the buyer paid for them (especially if using for GoD services) and confusion further abounds through Microsoft’s ‘block purchase’ policy.

Anyone know the easiest way to spend 250 MS points and actually get more from it than some trinkets for an Avatar that Microsoft won’t let me actually use on my PC box?
