Playstation 4

Think this guy hit the nail on the head:

Bullshit! it simply was not ready to show, that’s all. Are you telling me they are willing to give up the PR they get out of showing their machine? Come on! The machine is simply not finalised. it’s clear Sony wanted to announce something before MS does, that’s all. The machine’s final look is clearly not ready yet

Just looked at the controller, wow! That's one fugly looking controller. They just don't learn do they lol. Say what you want about Microsoft they got the 360 controller spot on.

Morning all.

I thought it was a good conference, they announced the PS4, we saw the controller, VITA interfacing and the applications of social medium. What else do you need? games? that's what E3 is for, but as it happens they showed games anyway, Knack, Watchdogs the PS4 version which was running on PC, Capcom tech demo, what ever the fuck that was Squeenix showed, Unreal engine 4 Elemental tech demo, oh and I forgot that racing game and Killzone 4.

No display for the PS4 itself? don't really care, Nintendo didn't show the Wii U at E3 2011. And what state is the hardware in atm anyway, probably an open air frame with circuit boards, how sexy is that to console fans? porn for us PC users though ;)

Would have been cool if they showed some concepts if they have not decided on what it looks like yet, which leads credance to why we didn't see it, otherwise what's the harm in a prop on stage. Also could have even involved the crowd, "Which do you think looks best?" tell us on your way out.

Really don't care at this point.

I may not bother this time round (at least not for a while).  I got the PS3 at first as it played Blu-Ray and games.  I play games almost exclusively on PC so the gaming side was mainly for my son.  He now spends much more time using On-Live with his friends.

In your opinion.  I for one have always loved the Dual Shock controller and have struggled with the 360 controller whenever I've used it.

I love the look of the new controller!

I don't get on with the 360 controller either, shoulder button is to close to the Y so if I have to use both at the same time I have to dedicate myself to doing so, losing proper function with the rest of the buttons. Made playing DMC4 impossible for me on 360 and I don't understand how anyone else could have coped with any sort of skill level above mashing X. The triggers are also awful and in fact so are the DS3 triggers, I want tactile buttons with feedback, not sponges, you know.. like Dual Shock 2.

^^ Yes I am interested, I was just expecting a lot more than they showed - maybe I went in with my expectations set to high and I'll need to wait until E3 to see the stuff they didn't want to show yesterday?

I'm not a fan of any one particular brand, luckily enough I can afford both PS3, Xbox360 and also a decent PC - but I still feel disappointed in the conference and don't see why some people are practically wetting themselves (not saying you are one of those people though)

Anyway enough disappointment. I'll wait and see how it plays out just like everyone else.

For me, I didn't watch it, not interested in it at all, however, I think if I was Sony rather than rush out what seems a disappointing presentation just to apparently beat Microsoft...i think i would have waited, made a f'king kick arse presentation and blown MS out of the water with it.

I think if they'd made it a press only or developers only presentation then that would have also been fine, but inviting the consumer to watch and then giving no consumer information (or very little) seems like an odd approach.

Cool - ShopTo as we know have the PS4 open to pre-orders for £400 with price promise, that if the price changes we still pay £400.

Uncool - I pre-order my PS4 at ShopTo and the comfirmation email says it's won't be subject to the price promise.

Even if price promise did apply, if it cost considerably more than £400 they'd just cancel your order anyway to make you reorder at the higher price.

Not true, they have a price promise that they've always honoured. Similar to Amazon.

^^No wonder these companies go bust if that's their approach, how does that make sense?

So if they do a price promise for 400 quid and Sony set the price higher then they need to cover the difference? Doesn't price promise only apply to things which drop below the initial price? That's how it works on Amazon I think?

So if pre-order at 10 quid and it goes on sale initially at 9 quid then I only pay 9 - but if it goes up to 12 then I would have to pay 12 no?

No you're wrong, an example for me is Diablo 3 I pre-ordered on Amazon at £17.99 years ago. The price went up to around £30 but I still only got charged the £17.99 that I pre-ordered at. That's their price promise and they must calculate the risk.

ShopTo have obviously calculated a price they believe worth the risk. I personally feel they've got it right, I don't think it'll be any more than £400 on release.
