As I type this, a large number of you (myself included) will either have a small parcel winging its way to them (via your preferred postal service) or a large number of itty-bitty bytes filling your computers hard disk
Contained within said package will, apparently, be a prime candidate for game of the year… a promised tour-de-force 40-hour African safari with blood, guts, violence, and many, many zebras. Yes, Far Cry 2 has shipped for a large deal of people.
In anticipation of it hitting doormats/hard drives, Guru3D have taken sixteen of the worlds favourite graphics cards (ATI AMD & Nvidia) and put them through their paces.
So, readers, do we have another stutteringly gorgeous Crysis or a deliciously optimsed and detailed Call of Duty 4? Read on…
In a nutshell, if you have a card that doesn’t turn its nose up at the potential of DirectX 10, then you’re laughing – even lowly older cards like the 8800 GTS (which ain’t no spring chicken no more) is easily capable of ~40 frames per second at the not-uncommon resolution of 1280×1024.
Both AMD & Nvidia have released new ‘optimised’ drivers, likely packed full of cheats and hacks to eek every possibly FPS out of the game whilst simultaneously destroying compatibility with all other games on your machine.
