Windows 7 – too game or not too game

windows7Are Windows XP’s days finally numbered?  TechRadar have an article asking such a question as Windows 7 reaches Public Beta and at first glance seems to be the next big thing.

After Vista totally failed on almost every level to replace XP as everyone’s favourite Microsoft OS, Redmond were forced back to the drawing board to rethink everything.  Beta 1 of Windows 7 (no focus groups were allowed near the name this time!) is out and as a general use platform, it’s several shades ahead of Vista.  But what does it hold on the gaming front?

Firing Squad are carrying a comparison of the gaming performance of Windows XP vs Vista vs 7.  Surprisingly, it outpaces both Vista and XP in some places (whilst unsurprisingly lagging in others), but given how immature the OS is, it’s not surprising.

Personally, I’m really liking the improvements to the program, even if most of the ideas are just nicked from OS X and other platforms.  I’m testing it for my workplace on a i945-based business laptop, which is hardly a decent gaming platform, so no Crysis benches from me.

Any readers got any experiences of gaming on Microsoft’s latest?
