Mass Effect 3 Official (but Not Officially Official)

Given how Mass Effect 2 ended (and all the posturing about the ‘Shepard Arc’ being a trilogy of games), we all knew Mass Effect 3 was coming.

I don’t suppose anyone expected it quite so soon, but BioWare have been teasing a new game for a while.  The internet was generally predicting it to be a Mass Effect MMO or (more obtusely) a sequel to BioWare’s first game, the mech sim Shattered Steel.

All the teaser evidence had seemingly pointed to a reveal at the 2010 VGAs on Saturday 11th (tomorrow), but some guy in EA’s Store management team seems to have felt a bit previous & accidentally set the product listing to go live on the 10th (today) by mistake.

The listing was pulled pretty quickly, but, being the internet, it wasn’t enough. Some lad by the alias/name of Devin M took screengrabs and passed them to Joystiq pretty sharpish (showing SKUs for the PC, 360 & PS3) before the listing was removed.

Earth is burning. Striking from beyond known space, a race of terrifying machines have begun their destruction of the human race. As Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving mankind is to rally the civilizations of the galaxy and launch one final mission to take back the Earth.

…said the description on the store.  Maybe another suicide mission might well be in order!

Grabs are after the cut – more once the VGAs are over.
