Onlive UK First Impressions

As we’ve already posted, Onlive went er live this morning in the UK. I thought i’d just quickly post up my first initial impressions of the service.

After registering for the service i quickly found the first free item to try which was the 30 min free trial of Warhammer 40K Space Marine.

For reference, i am trying this on a 2010 Macbook with a 15MB internet connection (via wifi).

Within 30 seconds, the opening cinematics were loading (and in really good quality). However once in the game itself, the quality was not as spectacular however it was passible (i’ll try and add some screengrabs later). The best way i can describe the image is that it was like a medium quality YouTube video.

There was very little input lag and it was very responsive with my button presses being recognised instantly (although i could see it probably being a problem on slower connections).

I’m going to try and get hold of the Micro Console and review the service from that however, my first impressions are quite favourable and the fact that there was virtually no lag on the input or the output surprised me and it remains to be seen how popular the service will be with publishers.
