You can’t get a more faithful remake than this, it is a lovingly recreated version of the NES original, right down to the difficulty and the controls.
Ben Judd and the team at Grin (Previously Responsible for the PC versions of the Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter series) have made this a very loving remake, making sure that while it looks like a modern game under the hood, really it plays just like the original NES/Arcade version. It’s so faithful, that there isn’t even a Jump Button.
That means it’s bloody hard, in fact it’s so hard the levels aren’t even in the correct numerical order. As i mentioned earlier there’s no jump button, instead you’ve to aim your bionic arm and latch onto platforms and either climb up or swing from platform to platform to make your way through the levels with the goal of rescuing the brilliantly named Super Joe (don’t you just wish you had a name as awesome as that?).
Even the music is faithful to the original, sounding like it is running off the NES sound chip itself. There are Challenge Rooms for you to test your skills in, and like the rest of the game you will find that they are quite difficult, they certainly live up to their name.
If you like your games Old School, you can’t get a better dose of Retro-Modern action than this labour of love (except for maybe Megaman 9).
One of the best handled Remakes ever.
