Microsoft have announced that they have bought the rights to Gears of War from Epic Games for an undisclosed sum.
Along with buying the IP from Epic, former Epic Veteran Rod Fergusson (last seen helping out on Bioshock Infinite) has joined Microsoft to oversee Gears of War at it’s new home of Black Tusk Studios.
Rod Fergusson had this to say: “I’m extremely excited to be joining Black Tusk Studios to oversee development on the “Gears of War” franchise. I’ve been privileged to work on a lot of great games with a lot of great teams, but “Gears” has had the most impact on me professionally and personally, so this really feels like a homecoming. I can’t wait to share more with you all soon.”
Epic Games have released a statement on the sale simply saying that they are concentrating their efforts on “new projects” and that they have licenced Unreal Engine 4 to Microsoft.
