Cause for Concern: Singularity ‘Shotgunning’ Trailer

Raven & their Activision slave paymasters released another trailer for their upcoming time-bending shooter ‘Singularity’ at the SDCC.

Find it after the cut, along with some thoughts.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I love shooting virtual bad guys in the virtual face with virtual shooty bangs, but it really grates on me when someone devises a brilliant idea that could really innovate the genre (in this case, environmental temporal manipulation) and then buries it under a layer of total generic shit that it struggles to make itself known.

It’s hard to count the number of things wrong with this gameplay trailer, but here goes…

  • A little bit of gravity gun gravity hand play.
  • Oh, look…  a ghost!
  • Shooting
  • Age the guy into dust
  • Shooting
  • Shooting
  • Shooting
  • Crumble precariously balanced column onto bad guys
  • STAND STILL WHILST SOMEONE FIRES A FUCKING ROCKET AT YOU
  • Shooting
  • Firing a bullet that you can control and direct around corners into bad guys faces (wait, this is actually cool!)
  • Token reminder that time glove puzzle solving is still in there amongst all the shooting.

Seriously, who puts these trailers together?  Maybe it’s too much to expect that a trailer called ‘Shotgunning‘ be about anything but, well, mostly assault rifling (!) but if the unique selling point can’t sustain the game these days, what hope is there amongst the rest of the shit that is out there?

Singularity has been delayed till next year, officially to make way for the suspected nigh-on biblical arrival of Modern Warfare 2, but hopefully to make it a better game at the same time!
